[for the times that required painting interiors, it usually isn't too bad. sure, they're both covered in paint, there have been a few spills and flubs along the way—but it's largely uneventful for ibuki and heisuke both. it's more a chance to learn the ropes, something ibuki manages to pick up quickly since he isn't terrible with a brush. heisuke, on the other hand...]

[A: WHO LET THESE GUYS ON A SCAFFOLD?]

[there's painting inside. and then there's painting outside. a couple of stories off solid ground. with two guys from edo-era japan who have never done this and both have a tendency to let their big mouths and sometimes clumsy natures get the better of them.

painting it all well and good until they're bickering: sometimes it's because ibuki is nagging about how heisuke paints, sometimes it's just heisuke firing back as a result. neither of them is calm, which, of course, causes the scaffolding to shake (okay, and sometimes the paint gets warmed a little too much, which is unsettling to them anyway). and what happens when two ill-prepared boys let the scaffold shake?

...well, cans of paint, trays, and other painting apparatuses tumble over the edge. and when that happens, the sound of a loud and panicked kid may come from above.]

O-oi! Oi, hey! Watch out down there!

[he's already mastered the look of shock and horror on his face, whether it's because there's paint splattered on the ground or because someone got a face full of painty goodness from a fallen brush. this isn't going to end well, is it?]

[B: IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY, SEND HELP.]

Heisuke... I can't believe how much paint you got in my hair. How did you get more in mine than in your own? You have just as much!

[at the end of the work day, both heisuke and ibuki are sitting outside of the building they've been working on. they're both covered from head to toe in paint, and given how much hair they both have... well, they look like they've been rolling around in it rather than actually accomplishing anything. they look exhausted and exasperated, which may just be why they haven't packed up to go home yet.]

Hey... you! Come here for a second. [he's not as heated as usually, but ibuki doesn't hesitate to call over passers-by. neither of them has ever dealt with this sort of paint, so they're going to need some help. or at least, they're going to ask for some and hope that someone is willing to help the idiot puppies out.]

[C: CLOSED TO HEISUKE; WAKE THE FUCK UP.]

[okay seriously, where the hell did heisuke disappear off to? the rooms in this building aren't all that big, but it's a lot of ground to cover if they want to get at least another room painted before the day is through. but ibuki realizes things have gotten too quiet. wasn't heisuke just supposed to be going to throw down a drop cloth in that room so things would be easier later?

eventually, it annoys him enough to search for this guy. ibuki doesn't bother to put the paint roller down, carrying the object with an iron grip as he stomps through the building (ibuki, you're gonna crack the newly refurbished walls you're trying to paint this way) until he arrives at the room heisuke claimed to be in...

only to find his friend sleeping on the floor and hugging the drop cloth like a pillow.]

Oi! [ibuki's having none of this, so he stomps over and presses the paint-filled roller to heisuke's cheek, rolling a line of paint down from there right down to his torso] Heisuke, what the hell are you doing!? You can't just go to sleep and leave me to do all the work! Get up!

[why this. seriously, why this.]
